TorcPlug establish barrier in challenging well conditions.
Improving operational efficiency while reducing the overall risks significantly with a robust and proven solution.
Challenge
A customer in Germany faced challenges setting their temporary barrier during a workover operation. Despite numerous attempts with a variety of different plugs the customer was unable to achieve a successful inflow test. Complicating the situation further, the well's completion was old and heavily corroded, compounded by substantial scale buildup. These factors combined to create a particularly difficult environment for establishing an effective barrier, necessitating an innovative approach to overcome the persistent issues.
The TorcPlug was set and tested successfully in scale on the first attempt.
Setting multiple times and testing in the same run unlocks significant savings.
Solution
The solution for the operator was the TorcPlug from E Plug. TorcPlug was selected due to its multi-set capabilities and adjustable setting force. The combination of the TorcPlug and the Electric Manipulation Tool (EMT) offered a unique solution, enabling real-time monitoring to ensure the application of adequate setting force. This capability was critical for understanding and reading the well conditions real time. The TorcPlug was used to crush scale and establish a barrier without causing damage to the tubing.
Once the TorcPlug was set, the EMT could be unlatched and pulled up to a safe area, allowing for the inflow test to be conducted.
In the event of a failed inflow test and a new setting attempt was required, the EMT could be re-run into the hole and latched back onto the TorcPlug, eliminating the need for an additional run. This was not necessary for this operation but was also a part of risk mitigation and engineered solution.
This streamlined approach significantly enhanced operational efficiency and minimized downtime, providing a reliable solution for the customer's workover challenges.
Value Created
This efficiency not only saved time and reduced operational costs but also demonstrated the effectiveness of the TorcPlug and EMT combination in overcoming the well's complications.
