Remote Water Shut off Operation in New Zealand
Challenge
An Operator in New Zealand had challenges with water production in one of their well and required an effective solution to shut off the water to enable higher quality production. This operation was required to be deployed on an E-Coil, and due to Covid19 there was significant challenges with moving personnel.
The TorcPlug was deployed and set multiple times to allow the customer to evaluate the watercut while flowing the well with the string in the hole.
Supporting the operation from a remote operations center allowed this operations to be conducted with new cusomter and service contractor, in a new country, during the Covid pandemic. without any E Plug personnel.
Solution
TorcPlug was selected for its exceptional ability to be set and re-set multiple times, making it ideal for pinpointing the zones responsible for water production. By strategically setting the plug between perforated zones and flowing the well, we could accurately compare water-production levels across different intervals, yielding valuable insights into the well's performance.
The Electric Manipulation Tool (EMT) featured a highly compatible telemetry system with adjustable parameters, ensuring reliable communication via the desired cable. This capability provided precise control and real-time monitoring throughout the operation.
During the operation, the TorcPlug was set multiple times, and the well was test produced to determine if water production had been successfully halted. Once the optimal setting was identified, the TorcPlug was set permanently, allowing the well workover to be completed and the well to be returned to production.
A significant value-added benefit was the ability to set the TorcPlug multiple times remotely from the Integrated Operations Center at E Plug's headquarters in Stavanger, Norway. This approach significantly reduced the number of personnel required on board the rig, enhancing both safety and operational efficiency.
